Gosh, it's like people have thought about this issue before!

That approach also doesn't address the subobject problem that I'm trying 
to deal with.  But John's point about incomplete types is a big obstacle 
there, perhaps fatal.  I guess the best I can do is to warn users that 
they might want to tag their derived/enclosing classes as well.
